Ladies' Book Club

We are a very casual group - some people come every time, and others are more intermittent. Usually there are a few people who haven't finished the book, and some even don't read it at all, preferring just the discussion and fellowship (so no pressure - just come!).

Some people don't even attend JCC and we love that! About 3 or 4 times a year, Cindy recommends a book, or someone else will suggest a title that we all agree on. Although there is usually a spiritual theme, the books are not necessarily "Christian".

We all contribute to a pot luck dinner and enjoy a glass of wine while a lively discussion ensues.

Some of the books we've read recently include:

  • The Map of Salt and Stars - Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar
  • Same Kind of Different as Me - Ron Hall Denver Moor
  • Born a Crime - Trevor Noah
  • A Million Miles in a Thousand Years - David Miller
  • The Red Tent - Anita Diamant

    Ladies Book Club
  • Staring unflinchingly into the abyss of slavery, this spellbinding novel transforms history into a story as powerful as Exodus and as intimate as a lullaby. Sethe, its protagonist, was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. She has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. And Sethe’s new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved. Filled with bitter poetry and suspense as taut as a rope, Beloved is a towering achievement.

Bring a dish to share for a pot luck supper and come and enjoy the discussion and fellowship!

  • Location: Cindy's Place
