A Brief History of Joshua Creek Church

Sometime in 1984 Hardy had a conversation with his dad, Hans Steinke, who suggested the possibility of a new church plant in a city called Mississauga just west of Toronto!

At the time, Hardy and Cindy were associate pastors in a large church in Middletown, Ohio (near Cincinnati) led by Pastor Claude Robold.

They shared the idea with Pastor Claude Robold who was immediately supportive and so, the praying and planning toward the start of Mississauga Community Church started!  (Yes, the name of the church was initially Mississauga Community Church or MCC! It wasn't until 1999 that the church name was changed to Joshua Creek Church or JCC! More on that later.)

How could we ever forget the summer of 1987!  We called it "farming", working with Vern and Angie Mantei and five student interns to make over 1000 door-to-door visits and over 3500 telephone calls to get the word out, that a new church would soon be opening its doors!

September 13, 1987 was opening day at Pheasant Run Public School and 138 people were present for the birth of Mississauga Community Church.

In 1990 we moved our Sunday meetings to John Fraser Secondary School across from the Erin Mills Towne Centre.

In June of 1999 we took a bold step of faith by purchasing a 51.8 acre property in Oakville on Burnhamthorpe Road just west of 9th Line.

Joshua Creek runs through that property -- and this was the prompting, we believe from the Lord to change the name of the church to Joshua Creek Church.

We have just recently moved to Thorn Lodge Public School near Dundas and Winston Churchill Blvd.

The future looks bright!

At Joshua Creek Church we are "friends" journeying and working together with Christ to establish His Kingdom on earth. Whereever people live, play and work, that's where we want to shine the light of Christ and share His love for all.
